Like in many other older electric devices there are some parts made of bakelite. Do you actually know what bakelite is?
It is a duroplastic consisting of synthetic resin (phenoplastic made of phenol and formaldehyde) and filler material (wood flour was used very often).
There are still such bakelite-like moulding materials in the market. Although they are not called bakelite, which is a brand name, their qualities are almost identical. I use the moulding material called DECAL 2061 made by Raschig company.
It takes some time to produce parts using this material. First, you need a steel mould. It has cavities for the future workpiece. It has to have flexible pins, so-called ejectors, that press the part out of the mould. There are recesses for metal parts that are pressed into the pieces. You have to heat the mould at a constant temperature.
An exact amount of granulate is filled in the form and is pressed for several minutes with a certain pressure. During pressing, the material is pasty first and flows into the cavity during this time. Afterwards it hardens and can be taken out. Pressing instead of moulding is much more efficient when you have a bigger amount of parts.
